My name is Matthew Rashleigh and I am the Leisure Co-ordinator at Una St Ives. I will be taking over the blog this month and tell you about the journey of Una Leisure.
The Leisure Club Membership and Fitness Classes started at Una St Ives in 2016 and since then, it has grown from strength to strength. It all started with a Bootcamp class in Spring 2016. The class was a success, especially because my students had the option to use the leisure facilities to relax and unwind after an hour of hard work.
After the success of my first class, it all started to fall into place. I added more classes such as Legs, Bums & Tums, Body Blast Circuits and Aqua Aerobics. Then something incredible happened. My students started a coffee club after the classes, which is still on going now. The classes have developed their own little community, where people get together every week, work out and catch up over coffee or lunch.
With the fitness classes getting more and more popular, the demand for a bespoke fitness space could not be ignored any longer. The Fitness Suite started to be too small for the increased number of students, which is why Una has opened its own Fitness and Dance Studio. The arrival of the new Studio is not only meeting our current demand but also allowing us to increase the number and variety of classes; Yoga, Pilates and HIIT sessions are now available. We are looking to bring Zumba Aerobics and a second Yoga class to the schedule.
In November 2016, we have launched our own Leisure Club Membership. The membership includes full access to our 15mx12m swimming pool, steam, sauna, jacuzzi and gym. The Membership has been a total success, we are almost at capacity and our members are loving the Una Kitchen and Spa perks and discounts.
About the classes
HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is a great full body workout performed in a short amount of time. The 30mins class is a form of interval training, with short bursts of cardiovascular exercises to push you to your limits. HIIT is a great morning exercise due to its quick and effective technique. Joe Wickes, the famous Body Coach is a firm beliver in this fat burning technique, no wonder it’s now becoming a trend.

Legs, Bums & Tums is a cardio and conditioning circuits based class. I usually set up between 8 and 10 stations and due to the variety in exercises, there is no danger of getting bored half way through. The stations are approx. 40seconds of work with 20seconds of rest. It alternates between upper and lower body exercises to help you slim and tone specific targeted areas.

Aqua Aerobics is a fun fitness class, with regular exercises perfomed in our heated, indoor pool. Suitable for all ages, Aqua Aerobics is an all over great workout, with less pressure on your muscles and joints.
